Tag-Team Parenting: How to Support Each Other at Home

I came across this illustration on Instagram and chuckled, partly because I was relieved that the season of parenting is over for me, but also because it was so relatable. Being tired is not a competition, but sometimes arguments start when couples compare their levels of exhaustion.
Transitioning from Work to Parent Mode
Like most working parents, my husband and I had to figure out how to transition from work to parent mode. I would normally arrive home earlier than my husband, so I gave myself ten minutes to enjoy the quiet, gather my thoughts, and prepare before stepping into the house.
My husband calls this ‘decompressing.’ He needs it as much as I do. He would retreat to the bedroom and spend some time resting before switching to Dad mode.
Communication and Understanding Make the Difference
This ritual sounds simple, but it is not always easy. It takes communication, understanding, and care for each other’s well-being. Have that conversation with your spouse and find out what works best for your family. Parenting can become overwhelming, but by supporting each other, we can be better partners and better parents.
